As a regular visitor to India to see my son and Indian daughter-in-law, I have commended before the ingenuity of Indian officialdom, which insists that, as a journalist, I must pay nearly twice the normal rate for a visa valid for only three months rather than six, and on condition that I do not engage in journalism while in India.
